When Paper Cuts Feel Good

VISTA, Calif.-Bluepoint Solutions CEO Hal Tilbury sees many credit unions saving 60% to 70% on their paper and printing costs by shifting to electronic document capture and management systems. But what's most important, he said, are improvements in employee productivity.

"We help our customers adopt best practices for document management, and through those best practices they eliminate a tremendous amount of major inefficiencies," said Tilbury, citing two key best practices. "The ability to eliminate paper at the very beginning of the process is extremely important-capturing documents and checks at point of presentment. And if a document is electronic, don't take it to paper."

And being driven by paper allows the "tail to wag the dog," Tilbury insisted. "In other words, as long as you have a lot of paper you will be organized around managing the paper and moving the paper throughout the organization." Tilbury reminds that the CU can combine process improvements and cost savings with a community outreach effort. "You can go green and improve productivity at the same time."
