Along with its designation on Credit Unions Journal's Best Credit Unions to Work For list, Town & Country Federal Credit Union achieved a 99% employee engagement score on 2015's Best Places to Work in Maine survey.
"Our goal is to create an environment where our employees don't just like working for us, but feel a sense of professional accomplishment," said Nicole Sears, Town & Country FCU's VP and chief people officer.
Structured similar to a college internship program, Town & Country FCU offers an "Internal Internship Program," which allows employees to work in various departments during a three- to nine-month period.
"We encourage our employees to seek out any opportunities they're interested in, whether it is through job shadowing, interning, college courses or personal development," said Sears. "We want to ensure our employees have every resource available to them grow and achieve any goal they have set for themselves. Also, we have a two week new employee onboarding program, which fully immerses new hires into the organization and culture."
Town & Country FCU conducts an organizational "health survey" biannually that helps guide senior management on initiatives important to the organization. One example is its recently revamped personal time off (PTO) program that now provides as much flexibility as possible to help employees strike a work-life balance.
"Some employees have the ability to work from home on days they might have sick kids or a snow storm," said Sears. "Plus, the credit union is flexible if employees might need to leave early or arrive late to take a class, attend important doctors' appointments or care for a friend/loved one."
Founded in 1953, the CU currently operates six branches and one corporate center serving more than 25,000 members.
