Two Michigan Associations To Merge

LANSING, Mich.-One of the last remaining non-CUNA-affiliated state associations is disappearing. The Michigan CU League (MCUL) and the Michigan Association of CUs (MACU) have agreed to merge. The two groups had just completed the first year of a two-year agreement in which the MCUL was providing some services to MACU. "This arrangement offers member credit unions a united voice in Lansing and Washington," said MCUL CEO David Adams.

 

Filene Seeks Board Members' Input

MADISON, Wis.-The Filene Research Institute is inviting current and former CU board members to participate in a research study designed to measure the effectiveness of credit union governance. CU Foundation Creates Fund For DEs

WASHINGTON-The National CU Foundation has created a new Development Education Fund that will allow investors in the Community Investment Fund to designate future investments to support the Credit Union Development Education (DE) Program. DE training fosters CU values and philosophy.

Agencies Issue Statement On Risk

WASHINGTON-The federal banking agencies, including NCUA, in conjunction with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) released a policy statement on expectations for sound funding and liquidity risk management practices, including, when appropriate, supplements to the "Principles for Sound Liquidity Risk Management and Supervision" issued in September 2008 by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. Deadline For WOCCU Award Grows Near

MADISON, Wis.-The nomination deadline for World Council of Credit Unions' (WOCCU) Distinguished Service Award (DSA), the highest honor bestowed by the international credit union system, is April 5, 2010. Blanchard To Be Inducted In Hall of Fame

WASHINGTON-Long-time CU leader Larry Blanchard will be inducted into the National Cooperative Business Association's Hall of Fame on May 5 during induction ceremonies at the National Press Club. NCBA said without Blanchard, who held numerous positions within credit unions and chaired the Campaign for Consumer Choice in 1997-98, "there might not be a credit union movement today."

 

Website Created For Furloughed Workers

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-Oklahoma Employees Credit Union (OECU) has launched a website at www.helpingok.com to assist Oklahomans experiencing a job furlough, especially state employees. The website contains FAQs, financial tools, furlough news, resources and a blog. OECU also recently absorbed Oklahoma City Thrift FCU via merger.
