Two More CEOs Are Retiring
BANGOR, Maine-Darla King, who went to work 35 years ago as the first employee of what then was known as Bangor Hydro FCU, has retired as CEO of the now Changing Seasons FCU. King will stay on the $22 million credit union's board to work with the supervisory committee. In Montana, Missoula FCU CEO Gary Clark is retiring Sept. 30 after building the state's second largest CU to almost $400 million in assets. Clark, 66, has headed the credit union for 18 years.
North Carolinians Are Honored
RALEIGH, N.C.-The North Carolina CU League has honored a number of people. Sam Whitehurst, CEO of Summit CU, has been presented with the Mark of Excellence Award, recognizing sustained leadership. David Elliott, CEO of Fort Bragg FCU, has been presented with the Ronald J. Hutchins Award as the Outstanding Credit Union Person of the Year, recognizing his 35-year career in CUs. Wayne Weddington, chairman of Internal Revenue Employees' FCU, won the Ronald J. Hutchins Award, honoring his 34 years of service. Jack Thornton, chair of Summit CU, David Campbell, longtime board member with Telco Community CU, and Leslie Colin (L.C.) Kelly, longtime member of the Charlotte Fire Department CU, all won the Mark of Excellence Award (Campbell is a 60-year member of TCCU). Robert S. (Bobby) Hall, who recently retired from State Employee's CU (SECU), received the Larry Johnson Order of Merit Lifetime Achievement Award.
SaveUp At Clinton Initiative
LIVONIA, Mich.-CU Solutions Group's partner SaveUp was chosen to be a commitment maker at this year's Clinton Global Initiative America (CGI America) meeting. The goal of SaveUp's Commitment to Action is to reach 250,000 more Americans and help them create $5 billion in asset growth by December 2014. Currently, SaveUp's users have deposited $486 million into savings and paid down $320 million in debt since 2012. SaveUp uses game mechanics, financial education and real prizes to motivate people to make positive financial choices.
Mann New Chair of Miracle Day
WASHINGTON-Credit Union Miracle Day, which oversees the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run, has elected Theresa Mann, president/CEO of The Partnership FCU, Arlington, Va., as its new chairman. Mann replaces Juri Valdov in the position. Over the past 12 years, Valdov has helped oversee the raising of more than $6 million for Children's Miracle Network hospitals. Other executive team members elected include Charlie Mallon of Congressional FCU as vice chairman; Jan Roche of State Department FCU as treasurer; and Diana Dykstra of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues as secretary.

LUA For Valley Pride FCU
PLAINS, Penn.-Valley Pride FCU here has entered into a Letter of Understanding and Agreement with NCUA that requires it to take steps to correct unsafe and unsound practices. The specific steps required of Valley Pride include: engage a qualified individual to reconcile bank and corporate accounts; engage a CPA to perform an opinion audit; obtain training for the board of directors; and implement internal control procedures through the Supervisory Committee.
White Paper Addresses 'Myths'
MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council has released a new white paper, "Marketing is Easy and Other Myths: Strategies to Demystify Ten Misunderstandings That Plague Credit Union Marketing Professionals." Among the issues examined is how do marketers show overall value to the credit union, and how can marketers position their messages to make better connections with consumers.
