ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA's Office of Small CU Initiatives has developed online training modules for supervisory committee volunteers.

The training covers the role of the supervisory committee including monitoring management activities, how to complete an annual audit review, verification of member accounts, handling member complaints and where to find important resources on the agency's website.

CUES Board Elections, Appointments

MADISON, Wis.-Three people have been elected to three-year terms on the CUES board, including incumbents (and chair) Teresa Freeborn of Xceed FCU, and (vice chair) Robert D. Ramirez of Vantage West FCU. Also elected to the board was Stephanie Sherrod of TDECU. CUES also announced the appointment of Summit CU CEO Kim Sponem to fill the remainder of the term left vacant by Gerianne "Winky" Burks, the retired CEO of Northwest FCU, who is resigning from the board as of Sept. 30.

Corporate Launches Brand Campaign

MUSKEGO, Wis.-Corporate Central CU has launched the first phase of a brand awareness campaign with a new video posted on YouTube. "Corporate Central Helps You Do More For Your Credit Union Members" focuses on the fact that Corporate Central, as a credit union itself, shares in the people-helping-people and cooperative philosophy of the credit union movement. The campaign features a young version of Corporate Central CEO Robert Fouch literally and figuratively wearing a lot of hats in his quest to help natural person credit unions do more for their members.

NCUA Hosts 24 College Interns

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA reported that it hosted its largest-ever group of summer interns this year, with 24 college students working at the agency. NCUA said it worked with the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, Washington Internships for Native Students, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership to recruit and place interns.

Community-Based Biz Dev Explored

MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council examines community-based business development strategies in its new white paper, "Developing Strategies for Community-Based Credit Unions." The council said the white paper delves into the evolution of community-wide marketing, how to determine a CU's niche, the importance of community activism and tactics for successfully building a community charter's marketing and business development plan.

Hensler Retires From The County FCU

CARIBOU, Maine-Kenneth Hensler, CEO at The County FCU-where his father served as director long before his hiring-has announced his retirement from the $190 million CU. Hensler has helped oversee growth from $82 million in assets.

More Name Changes Announced

COLUMBUS, Ohio-State Transportation Employees Credit Union is changing its name to Bridge Credit Union as it seeks broader markets. The new brand, which includes a new website, logo and color scheme, reflects the $43 million credit union's plans to expand to serve select groups in transportation logistics, construction, engineering and warehousing. In Bellingham, Wash., GaPac Community FCU has changed its name to GaPac Community FCU. Founded in 1952 to serve employees of Pacific Coast Paper Mill, the name change was made to reflect an expanded FOM. And in Salinas, Calif., Monterey County ECU is now allU.S. Credit Union.

Hawaii CUs Pledge $500K To CMN

HONOLULU-The League of Hawaii Credit Unions has pledged $500,000 to the Campaign for Hawai'i's Children to rebuild and expand Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. The pledge will be made through Children's Miracle Network.

Condon Announces Retirement

MADISON, Wis.-Longtime CUNA official Mark Condon has announced his upcoming retirement from the trade association to pursue his master's degree in history with plans to teach. The SVP of business and consumer publishing, Condon has been with CUNA for 35 years, having worked on "Credit Union Magazine," "E-Scan" and "News Now."
