$26M Loan Auction This Week
FORT MYERS, Fla.-As reported earlier by Credit Union Journal, NCUA and Boston-based DebtX plan to hold an online auction to sell $26-million in bad loans the agency is managing after taking control of the failed Huron River Area CU, Ann Arbor, Mich. The sale will be held Dec. 13 on properties in Lehigh Acres and Cape Coral, Fla. Participants will be limited to select investors and financial institutions.
CUs File Document In FOM Case
WASHINGTON-Credit union-related parties involved in a lawsuit filed by bankers in Pennsylvania against NCUA filed a document with the court last week that supported the regulator's process for approving the field of membership the bankers are challenging. The American Bankers Association is challenging community charters OK'd for: Members 1st FCU, New Cumberland FCU and Americhoice FCU. The credit union response was filed by CUNA in cooperation with the Pennsylvania CU Association and NAFCU in the case before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
NCUA, IRS Release VITA Webcast
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have made available a webcast on the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Led by NCUA Board Member Gigi Hyland, the webcast focused on credit union opportunities to provide free tax preparation service for members. The NCUA-IRS webcast features speakers from the IRS and two credit unions, actively involved in the VITA program, presenting information regarding VITA and partnerships with community coalitions.

Call For Entries In Diamond Awards
MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council is now accepting entries across 35 categories for its Diamond Awards. Entries for these awards must be received by 5:00 p.m. (CST) Jan. 11. All entries received by Jan. 4 will receive the early bird discount and avoid paying additional entrance fees. For anyone entering the website marketing category, all entries must be received no later than Dec. 21.
