Deadline For Lending Awards

MADISON, Wis.-The nomination deadline for the 2004 Credit Union Excellence in Lending Awards is Friday, July 30. The awards-two in consumer lending and two in mortgage lending-are sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group and the CUNA Lending Council and will be presented at the 2004 CUNA Lending Council Annual Meeting Nov. 14-17 in New Orleans.

Credit unions wanting to nominate themselves, or another credit union, can receive an application form and materials by visiting www.cunamutual.com and clicking on "Apply Now for 2004 Excellence in Lending Awards," or requesting one via e-mail, loanliner cunamutual.com. Parks New SCCUL President

COLUMBIA, S.C.-Garry L. Parks-a recently retired U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant General and former Navy FCU board member-has been named CEO of the South Carolina Credit Union League. Parks will also serve as CEO of the service corporation, Palmetto Cooperative Services. Parks graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor's degree in education in 1969 and holds a Master's degree from Pepperdine University. His final assignment with the Marine Corps was Deputy Commandant, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, where he had oversight of a $9.5-billion account.

Gracie Retiring After 26 Years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-Ron Gracie, CEO of Coastline FCU, announced his retirement after 26 years with the CU. Gracie began his employment on Feb. 1, 1978, when the credit union was SCL General Office Employees FCU, as assistant manager. Gracie was promoted to president in 1992, when assets were just over $16 million and there were 5,233 members. He leaves the CU with $117 million and more than 15,500 members. Wayne Harubin, VP-finance, has been named Gracie's successor. Harubin joined Coastline in December 2003. His experience includes having served as CEO of Credit Union Denver.

RMJ Foundation Accepting Apps

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-The Richard Myles Johnson Foundation is now accepting applications for its Leadership Scholarship Program for the 2004-2005 school year. The program provides four scholarships of $2,000 each to credit union employees and volunteers in California and Nevada to help them pursue a graduate degree.
