Desert Schools Raises $175K

PHOENIX-Desert Schools raised a whopping $175,000 for Credit Unions for Kids and the Children's Miracle Network during 2004. The credit union said it did everything from employee barbeques and bowling tournaments, to conducting in-branch change drives, selling sun shades and duffle bags, and holding two golf tournaments to raise the funds. It is planning similar efforts this year.

Long-Time Leader, Doughty, Dies

MCALLEN, Texas-Longtime credit union leader A.C. Doughty has died after a lengthy illness. A native Texan, Doughty retired as president of Hidalgo FCU (now Security 1st FCU) in 1995 after a credit union career that spanned four decades. Doughty served in numerous leadership roles with the credit union movement. He is survived by his wife, Suzy Brinkman-Doughty, CEO of NAFT FCU, as well as three sons, one daughter, two step-daughters and numerous grandchildren. E&A CU To Build New HQ

PORT HURON, Mich.-E&A Credit Union said it will break ground this spring for a new headquarters building along the Black River. In addition to housing administrative offices, it will include a full-service branch. The building will help mark the credit union's 70th anniversary.

Northwest Corp. Changes Name

PORTLAND, Ore.-Northwest Corporate Credit Union has a new charter, and with it, a new name: Northwest Corporate Federal Credit Union. "As we have grown through the years to a regional corporate and providing services nationally through our business partnership with other corporate credit unions, we felt it was best to become federally chartered to reflect this strategy," said CEO Kathy Garner.

WellSpan Into First Capital FCU

YORK, Penn.-WellSpan Federal Credit Union here will merge into First Capital FCU effective Feb. 1. The credit union serves 4,000 members, and its branch will be added to the three that the $90-million FCFCU currently offers.
