CUs Urged To Attend Sessions
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA Chair JoAnn Johnson is urging credit unions serving low-income communities to attend one of the Assets For Independence training sessions the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is offering at various locations in August. "The program enables credit unions to assist members grow their savings and turn dreams into reality through the combination of member savings in Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) and matching AFI contributions," said Johnson. Sessions are scheduled for Oakland, Calif., on Aug. 16; Baltimore on Aug. 23, and Chicago on Aug. 30.
CUNA Promotes Two Execs
MADISON, Wis.-CUNA has promoted two of its executives. John J. McKechnie, senior VP-governmental affairs, has been given the additional title of Special Assistant to the President, reflecting his expanded role within CUNA as liaison with associated groups, including the World Council of Credit Unions. Richard Gose has been named senior VP-political affairs, recognizing his work in numerous areas, including political fundraising.
Oklahoma's Max Stoll Dies
DAVENPORT, Okla.-Max Stoll, a 17-year veteran of credit unions in this state, has died. Stoll, 62, had been fighting cancer for several years. In 1988, he helped to charter Central Oklahoma FCU, and served as its CEO as it grew to $20 million in assets. Stoll is survived by his wife and two children.
First Tip Charter In Pennsylvania
JOHNSTOWN, Penn.-The first TIP charter for a state-chartered CU in Pennsylvania has been granted. Lee Hospital Credit Union has been approved to serve the healthcare industry in Blair, Columbia, and Somerset counties. The TIP charter allows credit unions to serve entire trades, industries, or professions.
