Thomas To Retire From House

WASHINGTON-Rep. Bill Thomas (R-CA), the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee who oversaw hearings on the credit union tax exemption in November 2005, said he will not be running for reelection. Those hearings led to the current call for NCUA to find a way to document CU service to communities.

AAA Economic Summit In Dallas

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA will sponsor an Access Across America Economic Empowerment Summit at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas in Dallas on April 12. Registration opens at 8am and the programs will begin at 9am. The free, one-day event will provide education to credit union officials and board volunteers on how to apply federal resources and partnerships in order to best serve their members and empower them to achieve the American dream of financial self-sufficiency, the agency said.

Volunteer Retires After 55 Years

FORT WAYNE, Ind.-E.R. "Tony" Hile has retired from the board at Fort Financial Credit Union after 55 years of service. Hile began when the credit union was called Salisbury-Axle FCU, and during his years as a volunteer Hile never missed a single Indiana league annual convention or the CU's annual meeting. He was active in the league, serving as chairman, on the board of Indiana Corporate, and on the board of CUNA Supply. He has been selected to the Indiana league's Hall of Fame.

CUNA Mutual Donates $100K

WASHINGTON-CUNA Mutual Group has contributed $100,000 to the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF). CUNA Mutual CEO Jeff Post was recognized for the company's continued support at NCUF's 2006 Herb Wegner Memorial Awards Dinner in Washington.
