MIlazzo Named Chair of NAFCU

ARLINGTON, Va.-John Milazzo, president of Baton Rouge, La.-based Campus FCU, has been named chairman of NAFCU. Milazzo, who has served on the board since 1999, will officially succeed current chairman Mike Vadala at NAFCU's annual conference next month in Toronto. The NAFCU Board also elected Bradley Beal, president of Nevada FCU, as its vice chairman; Michael Lussier, president of Webster (Mass.) First FCU, as treasurer; and David Gilbert, chairman of the board of Aberdeen Proving Ground (Md.), as secretary.

Latino Community Gets $5M Grant

DURHAM, N.C.-Latino Community CU reported that Duke University has agreed to make a $5 million non-member deposit that the low-income credit union will use to fund mortgage lending. The money will be deposited in $1 million increments over the next five years. The community development CU will dedicate the funds for low-income consumer and mortgage lending in Durham County, which is home to more than half of Duke's work force.

Relief Effort For Indonesia's CUs

MADISON, Wis.-WOCCU has activated its international disaster relief fund to benefit credit unions devastated by the earthquake in Indonesia. More than 5,000 people have been killed and more than 100,000 are homeless. Indonesia has more than 979 credit unions and 579,000 credit union members.
