Game Reality: Walmart Worker Wins Neighborhood CU’s $10,000 Savings Prize

DALLAS -- A stunned Joyce Davis opened her door early yesterday morning to a porch crowded with Neighborhood CU leaders handing her a giant $10,000 check with her name on it—representing her winnings in the credit union’s Prize Savings Account.

They surprised her as she was getting ready for work in the optical department of a nearby WalMart.

The $10,000 prize was real, she was assured by Chet Kimmell, president of the $300 million credit union, who explained that her name had been drawn from the credit union’s Prize Savings Account holders.

Davis, who previously won a $5 prize from the credit union, has a Prize Savings Account, Kasasa Checking account and Money Market account with Neighborhood.

The credit union created the Prize Savings Account to encourage more people to save money and plan for their future by rewarding good saving habits with prize drawings throughout the year.

How the Prize Savings Account works: Neighborhood members receive one drawing entry for every $25 monthly average balance in their Prize Savings Accounts. The greater the savings, the greater the chance a member has of winning. Each month, drawings are held for prizes including $1,000 cash awards. At the conclusion of each year, a $25,000 Grand Prize winner is drawn. And this new $10,000 award is designed to encourage people to keep saving during the summer and throughout the year.
