Editor's note: this letter is in response to previous letters to the editor about the size of CUNA CEO Dan Mica's salary and an NCUA proposal to make all credit union CEOs' salaries public record.
Dan Mica's salary and compensation numbers are public knowledge. Form 990 (prepared by state charters across the country) and organizations claiming tax exemption must disclose those pay and benefit numbers as a matter of law. They are accessible on Guidestar.com which affords free signup and inquiries. While the information is dated (2006 is currently online) Mica's compensation, $1,818,501 and deferred compensation $70,643, are displayed for the world to see as is the compensation for all CEOs of state-chartered CUs that file 990s.
