New Pay Rules Raise Another Question

I hate to see NCUA issuing rules about how credit union boards compensate their top management people [NCUA Bars Certain CU Management Bonuses, Feb. 21], but I must admit that I have never understood why so many people feel that well-paid staff need or deserve bonuses.

It seems to me that when someone agrees to do a job for a certain salary, the rewards for doing the job well are that the person is paid and he gets to keep the job. Especially in today's economy, keeping a good job should be a high priority.
