Pottstown, Pa.-based Diamond CU was the Tower Sponsor of the Reading Hospital Road Run in Reading, Pa. Diamond employee volunteers were on hand to help hand out medals and Diamond’s mascot, Chip, was there to cheer on runners.

Adoption Day

Employees of America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., volunteered their time and gave generously at a variety of events around Southern California, including at the San Bernardino County Courthouse during the county’s Adoption Day event, during which 65 adoptions were finalized. Ten staff members spent the day celebrating with the soon-to-be families.

In Ridgeland, Miss., David Broadaway, Members Exchange CU’s AVP business and specialized lending, was recognized as a Community Champion by Mississippi Public Broadcasting at its Motivation to Graduation, Dropout Prevent Forum.

Getting generous in the Great White North

In Anchorage, Alaska USA FCU’s Foundation made two donations to local organizations: $5,000 to the American Diabetes Association in Alaska and $4,000 to Kids Kupboard in Palmer.

Refugees welcome

Since the early 1980s, 7,500 refugees have made New Hampshire their home, many residing in Manchester, the state’s largest city. St. Mary’s Bank awarded Welcoming Manchester with a $2,500 grant in support of its mission of the integration and success of Manchester’s immigrants.

Mulvaney lends an ear

SAFE FCU, Sumter, S.C., hosted former U.S. Rep Mick Mulvaney (R-5th District, now director of the White House Office of Management and Budget) to get SAFE’s input on how the regulatory landscape can be improved. Mulvaney, who last fall was re-elected to his fourth term, was a member of the House Financial Services Committee and is a high-profile supporter of CUs.

Fourteen Southern California credit unions and affiliate organizations participated in the CHOC Walk in the Park at Disneyland, raising $194,000 for Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Nickels with Noah

Bangor FCU, Bangor, Maine, and its local fundraising hero, Noah Tibbetts, held their annual Nickels with Noah campaign to gather spare change to help kids going through treatments at the local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Including a CO-OP Financial Services Miracle Match, Bangor FCU presented Noah with a check for $14,223.40.

'Rally at the Raceway'

GCS CU, Granite City, Ill., participated in a “Community Rally at the Raceway” event that raised $50,985.27 to support local steelworkers’ needs. The proceeds were presented to the Tri Cities Division of United Way of Greater St. Louis and will be disbursed solely to assist qualified displaced workers and their families after a steel mill closed.

Hall of Fame

James Schenck, CEO of Pentagon FCU, Tysons, Va., chaired the Washington Business Hall of Fame Committee and led a $1.3 million fundraising effort to benefit Junior Achievement.
