Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., joined a list of sponsors supporting the Air Force Anniversary Ball in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force. Attendees included a number of military dignitaries, including many from Hanscom Air Force Base.

Harvester Financial CU, Indianapolis, donated more than $1,600 to the Hydrocephalus Association. The CU participated in the HA Walk for the third consecutive year. Separately, Harvester donated $2,500 to cuaid.coop to help employees, volunteers and members of credit unions who were impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Legislator visits

Oak Ridge, Tenn.-based Y-12 FCU hosted a visit from state Sen. Ken Yager at its Roane County branch. Officials from the Tennessee CU League, Y-12 members, employees and other community representatives were on hand to meet with Yager and discuss important issues.

HFS Federal Credit Union, Hilo, Hawaii, hosted its first community Reality Fair for high school juniors and seniors on the Big Island. The fair simulated a reality in which students had households of their own, including a career, a spouse (for some), a child and debt.

Member One matches hurricane relief donations

Member One FCU, Roanoke, Va., partnered with its membership to provide financial support to the disaster response efforts of the American Red Cross following the devastating hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. Each donation was matched, dollar-for-dollar, by the credit union for a total of $20,000.

Sock drive

RTN Federal Credit Union, Waltham, Mass., collected and donated 142 pairs of socks through participation in Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program’s Sox for Socks Drive.

Jackson, Miss.-based Hope CU, Jackson Public Schools and Alignment Jackson held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Provine High School-Hope Credit Union Branch, the first student-run credit union branch in Jackson.

Playground donation

Yolo FCU, Woodland, Calif., donated $30,000 to local non-profit Project Playground, which is revitalizing the playground located on Main Street. The current playground is nearly 30 years old and is no longer suitable for use. This project is a “community build” where local organizations are donating monetarily, and volunteers are donating their time and skills to build the park.

Teaching kids to love reading

Bettendorf, Iowa-based Ascentra CU and its foundation provided a $5,000 grant to give 900 students from grades 3 to 6 free attendance at the David R. Collins Children’s Literature Festival. This is the second year Ascentra Credit Union Foundation has provided a grant to the festival, committing a total of $10,000 to the annual event.

Harrisburg, Pa.-based Belco Community CU celebrated with members and the community at its three newest branches: two in Carlisle, Pa., the other in Newville, Pa. Belco hosted a welcome party celebration at all three offices, including refreshments and giveaways.
