Recognizing USAF service
Twelve future noncommissioned officers were recognized for completing the Airman Leadership School training held on Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. Hanscom FCU sponsored the event, as it has in the past. Separately, Hanscom FCU was recognized as the Air Force Materiel Command Credit Union of the Year.
Helping Mass. veterans
Merrimack Valley CU, Lawrence, Mass., presented a check for $2,300 to the Veterans Alliance of Greater Haverhill, representing money from several fundraisers, plus a match by the CU.
Learning station donation
San Antonio-based Security Service FCU and its charitable foundation presented the Mountain States Children’s Home in Colorado with a $5,000 donation that will be used to replace several computers and install new learning stations.
Celebrating women in the CU movement
Credit union professionals from across Minnesota gathered in St. Paul to celebrate the first year of the Minnesota Credit Union Women’s Leadership Network, a local chapter of the World Council of Credit Unions’ Global Women’s Leadership Network.
Sikorsky shreds
Sikorsky CU, Stratford, Conn., joined forces with William B. Meyer, Inc., and the Stratford Rotary in hosting a Shred It and Recycling Day event. A donation was requested, with proceeds going toward the purchase of school supplies for needy Stratford elementary school students. The CU hosted a separate shred event that raised $2,700 for the Danbury Police Activity League.
Golf tourney gets results
The Southeast 605 Chapter of Credit Unions held its annual charity golf tournament to benefit Feed South Dakota and other local charities. More than 70 golfers teamed up to raise $6,500.
'High School Takeover'
San Diego County CU and channel 93.3 FM teamed up to give students at Hoover High School an unforgettable treat. As part of the SDCCU High School Takeover, Hoover High School won a private performance from one of today’s hottest emerging artists, Alex Aiono.
A leg up for a future nurse
Credit Union of America, Wichita, Kan., awarded a $500 nurse scholarship to Chelsie Roach, who is using the funds to attend a career-related course at Barton County Community College during the spring 2018 semester.
A surprise for local nonprofits
Tom Johnson and Ezra Eckhardt, current and future CEOs of Spokane Teachers CU, Liberty Lake, Wash., spent a day delivering surprise checks to six nonprofits throughout the region – a total of $105,000.

Sponsoring student athletes
FedChoice FCU, Lanham, Md., served as the 2017/2018 season sponsor of the Suitland High School Lady Rams varsity basketball team. Suitland High School is located in Forestville, Md. The sponsorship included new athletic sneakers for each student athlete on the team.
