Amex Endures Cyberattack

American Express (AXP) endured a cyberattack on Thursday that left some customers unable to access their accounts.

The assault took the credit card giant's website offline for roughly two hours, company spokeswoman Amelia Woltering said in an email. "There is no evidence that customer data was compromised," she added.

The website Sitedown.co Thursday night logged roughly 43 reports of people being unable to log in to their Amex accounts within the preceding 24 hours compared with 44 such reports in the past seven days.

The outage, which was first reported by the New York Times, follows similar slowdowns in the past week at both Wells Fargo (WFC) and TD Bank (TD).

The incursions come amid a wave of denial of service attacks since September that have bogged down websites and frustrated customers of at many of the nation's biggest financial institutions.
