Airline Payment Gateway Adds Moneta Wallet

Universal Air Travel Program (UATP), an airlines-owned payments network, has linked up with new online digital wallet firm Moneta to place the payment option to their fare purchase checkout pages, as well as extend marketing programs through bank partners of Moneta.

Moneta’s payment methods are marketed through consumers’ banks, and will allow for direct payment of tickets through users’ checking or money-market accounts, via the automated clearinghouse debit network. Plans are for Moneta to extend the payment options to include international debit, credit cards and “pay later” credit-based functions.

Moneta is an alternative payments player which was launched earlier this year after private-equity investors purchased the technology originally developed by Fiserv’s CheckFree unit. Its game plan is to curry favor with merchants through discounted interchange, while linking them up with banks by sharing the revenue stream with institutions. Banks can also add their own branded presence to a merchant’s checkout page.
