American General to back medical card.

COLORADO SPRINGS -- American General Finance Inc. has agreed to finance a revolving charge card for the health care market.

The card is being marketed by Medplus Corp. in conjunction with its Patient Plus network of health care providers.

Medplus, based in Colorado Springs, recently announced that an affiliate of Associates Corp. of North America, which is owned by Ford Motor Co., would be issuing its private-label credit card to users of the network.

Patient Financing

The Patient Plus card is an outgrowth of a Medplus service called patient financing, which supplies nonrecourse cash advances to cover health care expenses.

American General Finance is a consumer finance subsidiary of American General Corp., an insurance holding company based in Houston.

"This partnership between Medplus Corp. and American General Finance will have an impact on a very important segment of the health care market, which is the self-pay portion of health care expenditures," said Medplus president Mark A. Snyder.
