Ameris in Georgia to Close 10 Branches

Ameris Bancorp in Moultrie, Ga., plans to close 10 branches in an effort to save about $5 million a year in operating costs.

The closures will "have little to no adverse customer-service impact," Chief Executive Edwin W. Hortman Jr. said in a news release Monday. The affected customers of the $5.2 billion-asset company will still be able to rely on mobile and online services, he said.

Ameris has taken several consolidation steps over the last decade. In December 2005 it combined 12 subsidiary banks into the Ameris Bank brand. And in 2012 it announced plans to close 20% of its branches in a bid to save $12.1 million in operating expenses each year.

At June 30 Ameris had 118 offices in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Alabama, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The release indicated that the bank current has 103.
