AT&T Offers a Way to Speed Up Receipt Of Toll-Free Faxes, Such as

PARSIPPANY, N.J. - As an addition to its Enhanced Fax system, AT&T Corp. is offering a service meant to facilitate the receipt of faxes by companies with "800" numbers.

The inbound service is aimed at businesses that receive an influx of faxes during the normal course of business.

One of the major applications, the company said, is the receipt of mortgage and credit applications and other documents by financial institutions. Loan officers in the field could also receive faxes through the service.

Other applications include the receipt of claims forms from clients or claims approvals from agents by insurance companies; the return of warranty cards by customers; and conference and school registrations.

Faxes sent to a company's "800" fax number go into the AT&T fax network and are deposited in the company's mailbox. Subscribers can retrieve faxes whenever convenient and their customers never get a busy signal, the company said.
