Elan Financial Services, a processing subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, is offering two new electronic services - automated teller machine software distribution and electronic journal delivery - to help financial institutions manage their ATM programs.
Banks that want to change the graphics, audio and video files, and other software on their ATMs often must schedule an on-site visit by a technician to load the software into the machine, Elan said Monday. Electronic software distribution accomplishes the same thing more efficiently, because it does not require an on-site visit, the Minneapolis unit said.
"Many financial institutions were underutilizing the powerful marketing capabilities of their ATMs due to time and cost constraints," Jan Estep, an executive vice president and business manager at Elan, said in a press release. The software distribution service lets clients use their ATMs to deliver "customized and timely marketing messages without the expense formerly associated with the task."
The electronic journal feature, an ATM record-keeping tool, is an alternative to having a technician visit the machine to copy information to a disk that is stored at the financial institution, Elan said. With the journal service, each time a client's ATM is balanced, data is saved to the ATM's hard drive and uploaded to a secure Web site, where it is available to the client the next day.
Elan supports more than 7,800 ATMs, 15 million ATM/POS cards, and 2 million credit cardholders with a range of products and services, including credit card issuing and ATM, debit, and merchant processing.
