Australian Bank Launches IPhone Funds-Transfer App

ANZ Banking Group has launched an application for Apple Inc.’s iPhone that enables customers to transfer funds to other mobile-phone uses in Australia, an official for the Melbourne-based bank tells PaymentsSource.

Consumers with Australian bank accounts may transfer funds to anyone in Australia using their mobile-phone number for authentication using the goMoney application, and they identify the fund recipients through their mobile-phone numbers, the spokesperson says.

ANZ processes the payment automatically for beneficiaries who are also users of the “goMoney” service, the spokesperson adds. “Those who are not goMoney users will receive a text message that will direct them to a website where they can transfer the payment into an account of their choice,” he says.

The application is available for free, and ANZ will not charge users when making fund transfers.

Customers using the iPhone app are covered under the same banking guarantee as users of the bank’s online-banking service in that the bank will reimburse them for any unauthorized transactions reported in a timely manner, the spokesperson adds.
