B of A Research Unit Hires Two

Banc of America Securities-Merrill Lynch Research, a unit of Bank of America Corp., announced Monday that it had hired Ethan Harris to head North America economics and David Bianco to head U.S. equity strategy.

Harris had been the chief U.S. economist at Barclays, formerly Lehman Brothers, since 2003. He is to be responsible for formulating and communicating the North America economic outlook and the Fed interest rate call and will work in partnership with Banc of America Securities' rates strategy research team on longer-term, yield-curve forecasts when he joins the company in September.

Before joining Lehman, Harris worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for nine years.

Bianco, who will begin working at Banc of America Securities in July, was chief U.S. portfolio strategist and head of U.S. valuation and accounting research at UBS AG. Before that, he was chief U.S. quantitative strategist at Deutsche Bank.

Harris and Bianco are to be based in New York and report to Adam Quinton, the head of Banc of America Securities' global macro research.
