BancCentral Amarillo fails, 5th in Texas.

WASHINGTON - BancCentral Amarillo failed last week, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. transferred its $35 million in deposits to Amarillo National Bank.

It was the 20th bank failure of 1993 and the fifth in Texas this year. In failures during 1993, Texas is second only to California, where eight banks have failed so far this year.

The FDIC, which acted Thursday, retained BancCentral Amarillo's $18 million in assets.
