BB&T Corp.'s takeover of Colonial Bank of Montgomery, Ala., has been "very smooth," according to BB&T Chief Executive Kelly S. King.
King, speaking at a conference hosted by Barclays Capital, said the integration has been "a challenge," though deposits have been stable over the past four weeks. The $175 billion-asset BB&T, of Winston-Salem, N.C., took over Colonial Bank on Aug. 14 after regulators seized it.
"We're off to a really good start with this transaction," King said. "To this point there has been no hitch. It has been very smooth and there have been no meaningful client reactions."
