BB&T Corp. has installed image capture software from the Brookfield, Wis., vendor Fiserv Inc. to convert deposited checks into electronic files at more than 330 branches.
Fiserv announced the deal Monday and said the Winston-Salem, N.C., banking company is using the software to reduce check processing expenses.
The Branch Source Capture software, part of Fiserv's Source Capture Suite, lets banks scan checks to create images that can be transmitted to a processing center. The process is meant to accelerate clearing and reduce check transportation costs.
Steve Anderson, a BB&T senior vice president and its check clearing manager, said in a Fiserv press release that his company already uses the vendor's software to let merchant customers convert checks at their locations and transmit them to the bank for deposit. "It made sense to leverage that investment and implement branch capture."
