Bisys unit installs IBM computers.

Bisys Document Processing Inc., the check processing unit of Houston-based Bisys Group Inc, announced that it had converted all of its operations to use midrange computers from International Business Machines Corp.

Bisys provides item-processing services to about 100 financial institutions through five service bureaus in Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Richmond, and Houston.

The service bureaus now all use IBM's AS/400 midrange computers, which Bisys officials said will enable the company to quickly adopt the new check-processing technologies demanded by their client banks.

The first such technology Bisys will install is a checkimage statement capability. Using software from G.G. Pulley & Associates, Bisys expects that as many as 25 of its item-processing clients will be sending to their checking account customers monthly statements that consist of computer-generated check images.

"The demand for image has not been overwhelming, but it is steady," said Paul Bourke, president of Bisys. Mr. Bourke expects the check-image statement service to be available through three Bisys item processing centers by the end of 1994.
