Boston ISO Offers BlackBerry App

The independent sales organization Merchant Warehouse announced the availability of a card-acceptance software application, MerchantWare Mobile for the BlackBerry.

The application runs on BlackBerry Pearl, Storm, Curve and Bold models made by Research in Motion Ltd. and offers the capability to use a Bluetooth card swipe device in order to earn lower, card-present interchange rates, the Boston ISO said Wednesday.

Target customers include contractors, delivery people, trade-show vendors and others who want to accept credit cards outside the office.

MerchantWare Mobile features secure transactions in real time, including sales, refunds and voids; can send e-mail receipts to merchants and customers; and automatic end-of-day batch processing, Merchant Warehouse said.

The free application is now available for download on Merchant Warehouse's Web site and soon will be available on BlackBerry App World, the company said.

Merchant Warehouse, which serves 80,000 merchants, introduced a MerchantWare Mobile application in March for the iPhone and iPod Touch devices made by Apple Inc. Henry Helgeson, the president and co-chief executive of Merchant Warehouse, said the company plans to develop a version of the application for Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Mobile operating system "in the near future."
