Cadence Bank Closes Three Ala. Branches, to Close Five More

Cadence Bank in Birmingham, Ala., has closed three branches in Alabama and plans to close five more in Mississippi and Texas, the Birmingham News reported.

The $8.1 billion-asset bank closed offices in Pelham, Northport and Huntsville last week, in response to customers moving to mobile and online banking, Cadence CEO Sam Tortorici said. The moves are also intended to improve efficiency and competitiveness.

Employees of the closed branches were offered job opportunities at other branches, Cadence said.

Cadence will also close five branches in the Houston area and in Mississippi this summer. Cadence closed a total of 17 branches last year.
