Card Briefs: American Bankcard Chooses Hypercom

PHOENIX - Hypercom Inc. said it has been named the exclusive supplier of point of sale terminals for American Bankcard Inc. of Northfield, Ill.

American Bankcard, which has been selling transaction services for 10 years, has been adding more than 1,000 merchants a month. It serves as the exclusive merchant processing representative of First of America-Northeast Ill., a unit of First of America Bank Corp., Kalamazoo, Mich.

"We standardized with Hypercom because they offer high-quality equipment," said Sam Buchbinder, president and chief executive officer of American Bankcard. "The five-year warranty on Hypercom's products, certification with the transaction processing networks we use, and the fast speed of transactions made Hypercom the clear choice."

American Bankcard said it will offer a range of products, including the T7P point of sale terminal with integrated receipt printer. The service organization said it had placed about 5,000 Hypercom terminals by the end of 1994.
