Card Briefs: Ex-MasterCard President On HNC Software Board

Alex W. "Pete" Hart, a veteran banking executive and former president of MasterCard International Inc., has joined the board of HNC Software Inc.

Mr. Hart, an independent consultant, left MasterCard in 1994 and joined Advanta Corp., where he was chief executive officer until October 1997. Advanta established an investment fund that bought a stake in HNC, a leader in neural networks and predictive software for credit cards and other markets.

"Pete Hart has a lifetime of experience and a reputation for innovation in the financial services industry," said Robert L. North, president and CEO of San Diego-based HNC. "The financial services industry remains one of HNC's primary focuses, and we look forward to Pete's help in identifying future trends and defining the next generation of products."

Before his five-year stint heading MasterCard, Mr. Hart was president and CEO of First Interstate Services Co. and held senior positions at First National Bank of Chicago and BancOhio. He was the founding chairman of Cirrus automated teller network and was chairman of the board of Maestro International.
