Card Briefs: Nova Develops Cellular Digital Processing

Nova Information Systems Inc. said it has introduced a way to process credit card transactions using cellular digital packet technology.

The technology lets merchants accept credit card payments in locations where there are no direct phone lines.

"Nova provides merchants access to economical wireless processing products by utilizing the Nova TCP/IP network and partnering with the major cellular carriers," said Nova executive vice president John M. Perry.

Nova has been testing its cellular digital packet data system, Traverse, since 1996. Nova has made the technology available to its 130,000 merchants and 4,800 affiliated bank branches.
