Card Briefs: Pulse Sets May Record With Heavy POS Volume

Pulse EFT Association said it set a record for transactions over its shared network in May.

Automated teller machine and point of sale transactions totaled 21.3 million, with POS volume rising especially fast. It accounted for 32% of transactions in the record-setting month, and Pulse president Stan Paur said he expects the network to process 70 million POS transactions in 1997.

"As more and more merchants accept the ATM card as a form of payment, Pulse expects the POS component of the network to experience above-average growth through the remainder of the decade," Mr. Paur said.
