Card Briefs: Verifact Developing Wireless Data Device

Lanser Telecom Inc. to develop a new wireless data communications device for point of sale debit and credit transactions. This device, to be called the Quatro-Cellpac, is intended to be used by merchants operating a local area network of IVI payment terminals. Lanser is a Canadian firm licensed as a common telecommunications carrier in Canada. It built Canada's first fixed wireless data network, called Cellpac, a point of sale service currently available in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver. By the end of 1996, the network will cover 80% of the Canadian market.
