Circle K Stores Inc., a unit of the Canadian convenience store company Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., has agreed to let Cardtronics Inc. of Houston handle the processing for its 650 automated teller machines.
Cardtronics operates almost 35,000 ATMs in the United States, Mexico, and the United Kingdom and has been developing an in-house processing system since last year.
The system will process transactions for the Circle K machines; it is already handling transactions for about 14,000 Cardtronisc machines, and the company said Tuesday that it expects to shift the rest of its ATMs to the system by yearend.
Cardtronics said its network can process transactions for ATMs that are owned by any company.
