When asked about the name change, a representative said the "check" part of the CheckSpace brand was "too limiting." Fidesic "is broader and speaks to the breadth of what the company now delivers." (Actually, we have found Fidesics delicious whatever a Fidesic may be.)
Well, maybe. It also happened that CheckSpace faced a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by the Atlanta-based CheckFree Corp. CheckFree had filed the suit in late January, alleging that the CheckSpace name, coupled with its core business function, was "confusingly similar" to the CheckFree name. The case never made it to trial and in May, the two companies settled out of court, with CheckSpace agreeing to change its name by August 11.
Fidesic says it had been planning to change its name prior to the suit. Fidesic also says the settlement allowed it to "maintain our focus on what matters," which it says is the development of new and better products.Fidesic licenses software that handles electronic invoicing, and settles electronic disputes. The new name, it says, indicates it "does more than just facilitate e-checking." Is that what Fidesic means?
