Chemung in N.Y. Promotes Tomson to President, COO

Chemung Financial in Elmira, N.Y., has promoted Anders Tomson to president and chief operating officer.

The $1.6 billion-asset company appointed Tomson on Tuesday to the roles at both the holding company and the bank, Chemung Canal Trust. Ronald Bentley has relinquished the president's title at the holding company and bank, but will remain chief executive of both entities and Tomson will report to him. The job of chief operating officer is a new position.

Tomson had been president of Chemung Financial's Capital Bank, the name the company uses in its Albany County and Saratoga County, N.Y., markets. Tomson had held that position since April 2011, when Chemung acquired Fort Orange Financial in Albany, the holding company for Capital Bank & Trust. Tomson also previously worked for RBS Citizens Bank.

Bentley, who is in his early 60s, joined Chemung in 2006 after working as head of retail banking at NBT Bancorp in Norwich, N.Y.
