Chittenden Corp. has hired Kirk W. Walters as executive vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer for the company and Chittenden Bank, its principal subsidiary.

He succeeds Nancy Rowden Brock, who left the Burlington, Vt.-based bank in September to pursue other interests, a bank spokeswoman said.

Mr. Walters was a business consultant in the Vermont area for a year, after he had been chairman, president, and chief executive of Northeast Federal Corp. in Hartford, Conn. He joined Northeast Federal in 1989 as senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Before that, he was senior vice president and controller of California Federal Bank in Los Angeles.

Chittenden Corp., a community bank holding company with offices in Vermont and Massachusetts, has $1.8 billion of assets.
