Citigroup Inc. has provided new details about its use of a mobile person-to-person payment service from Obopay Inc.

Since last year Citi has been evaluating the service in Boston and Chicago. On Wednesday the New York company said it expects a larger trial, in which checking account customers nationwide will be able to enroll online or in branches, to begin this summer. Citi had said earlier that it expected that test to begin in May.

Obopay lets people route payments to and from its prepaid card accounts. Last month the Redwood City, Calif., vendor also said users could send money to and from accounts at any U.S. bank, though these transfers, which use the automated clearing house network, are not as fast as the electronic ones between its prepaid accounts or Citi accounts.
