Citigroup Appoints Howle as Head of U.S. Commercial Banking

Citigroup (C) has added to William Howle's responsibilities by naming him head of commercial banking for the U.S.

Howle will continue to serve as chief operating officer of U.S. consumer and commercial banking. He will still report directly to Cece Stewart, president of U.S. consumer and commercial banking, with a "dotted line" reporting relationship to Sunil Garg, head of global commercial banking.

Citigroup has been reworking its U.S. structure in recent months. The New York bank has realigned its U.S. business and corporate banks into three regions — Eastern, Central and Western.

The company also moved Manuel Medina-Mora from head of consumer banking in all of the Americas to head of global consumer and commercial banking. His former responsibilities were taken over by three executives.

Citigroup's commercial banking group primarily serves midsized businesses, especially ones that operate abroad or seek to do so.

Howle began his career at Bank of America (BAC) in its commercial banking group before running its wealth management business in South Carolina and Georgia. He also was the chief operating officer of Wachovia's small business and retail banking.
