Codorus Valley in Pa. Hires Former N.C. Bank Exec for Key Post

Codorus Valley Bancorp in York, Pa., has hired Dwight Utz as its chief operating officer.

Utz succeeded Mike Allen, who resigned in March and is now executive-in-residence of The Graham Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies at Penn State University.

Utz will be responsible for the $1.3 billion-asset company's primary sales and services divisions, among other things.

Utz resigned as president of VantageSouth Bancshares in 2013; the company bought ECB Bancorp, where he had been president and chief executive.

Utz told American Banker shortly after leaving VantageSouth that he was interested in leading another bank with $1 billion to $5 billion in assets, preferably based in Virginia, Maryland or Pennsylvania, though he was also open to serving as a chief operating officer. ""I believe I still have the energy to take that on," he said at the time.
