Credit Union 24 Inc., an independent Tallahassee, Fla., electronic funds transfer cooperative serving 500 credit unions, has agreed to connect its CU Here network of surcharge-free automated teller machines to Cardtronics Inc.'s Allpoint network.
The cooperative said Monday that the Allpoint ATMs will be available only to members of the credit unions that participate in its CU Here Premium program.
"This will enable our participating credit unions to offer their members national surcharge-free reach and expand their own markets — while continuing to provide the benefits and economy of credit union membership," Jim Park, Credit Union 24's president and chief executive, said in a press release.
Credit Union 24 said it will not charge its member credit unions for the Allpoint surcharge-free ATMs during the first year of the program.
Allpoint operates the nation's largest surcharge-free network, with 32,000 ATMs. Cardtronics has expanded that network by signing agreements with companies such as Fiserv Inc. and First Data Corp. to link their surcharge-free ATM networks to Allpoint's.
Credit Union 24 said working with Allpoint will provide credit unions with access to more than 45,000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide.
