The sentence should have read, We always like to use the lessons of the past to say that, surely if we knew then what we know now about the crisis in the 1980s, wouldnt public officials have taken steps to correct and strengthen the FSLIC? a reference to the now-defunct Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp.
