Correction

A June 11 article, "Credit Union, in Break from Industry, May Require a Big Minimum Balance" (page 1), mischaracterized a proposal under consideration by Citizens Equity Federal Credit Union, Peoria.

The proposal, according to the credit union, calls for charging a fee to members whose deposits and loans together do not exceed $4,000. The policy would spare members who are 62 or older or who have low incomes. Details are still being worked out.

The article incorrectly stated that members with lower balances would be dropped from the credit union. The error apparently resulted from a misunderstanding between American Banker and the credit union. The newspaper regrets the error.
