In a front-page story on Friday, "Scottish, Irish Banks Discuss Merger of U.S. subsidiaries," cash infusions by Royal Bank of Scotland into its U.S. unit were incorrectly reported to be a result of losses. The capital increases, which occurred in the early 1990s, were for further U.S. expansion.
