In Tuesday's issue, a page 6 story about Amsouth Bancorp.'s plans to cut 150 jobs misstated their type and location. Erroneous information from the company was at fault.
The jobs, mostly clerical, are in Jackson, Miss.-not Birmingham, Ala., Amsouth's headquarters city-and they are not solely in commercial banking. In Birmingham, fewer than 50 back-office jobs in commercial banking will be cut, the company says.
The cuts are part of a program announced this month to cut 1,400 jobs overall.
Because of editing errors, another story Tuesday on page 6 misidentified the Hawaiian bank that BancWest Corp. owns. It is First Hawaiian Bank.
In the July 21 issue, a page 11 news brief overstated Discover Financial Services' role in a rebate program involving 15 retailers and other companies.
Discover would provide rebates of up to 1%, not up to 2%, but cardholders could double the Discover rebates by trading them for gift certificates from the partner companies.
