The April 13 article "Fannie's Profits Crept Up 2.3% in the First Quarter" on page 9 misidentified the period of comparison. The 2.3% rise was from the fourth quarter. Fannie Mae's profits in the latest quarter were 15% higher than those of the year-earlier period.

An April 12 article on page 24 about Associates First Capital Corp.'s first quarter had its profits moving in the wrong direction. Net income actually rose 10% from last year's first quarter. The article also understated adjusted earnings for the latest quarter. The correct figure is $370.5 million; the figure in the article included a special charge of 10 cents per share.
