Cubic Wins Contract For Florida Transit Card

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority has awarded a $15 million transit smart card contract to Cubic Transportation Systems Inc.

Cubic, of San Diego, will design and install the system, which will be compatible with the contactless Easy Card the agency launched in October in Miami-Dade County.

The contract, which was awarded last week, calls for extending the South Florida payment system across multiple transit agencies serving Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, Cubic said.

Riders will use the cards to pay their transit fares. The transit agency could later adapt the card to support nontransit payments, such as at merchants near stations, a Cubic representative said.
